The construction of this four-story multifamily apartment building has created an attractive, usable space for renters near the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. First Companies employed creative solutions to save costs while maintaining a charming appearance and delivering the final product ahead of schedule and under budget.

Ferris State University’s Center for Virtual Learning brings together their most innovative academic programs with advanced facilities, emerging technologies, and innovative classrooms. The facility houses the Digital Media, Information Security and Intelligence, Digital Animation, and Game Design programs, and is home to the state’s only purpose-built E-Sports arena.

Hampton Inn & Suites Manistee Waterfront offers direct Lake Michigan access. This five-story hotel features 102 rooms with lake-view balconies, a beach bar, firepits, and a top-floor restaurant. Amenities include a fitness center, indoor pool, hot tub, EV charging, and remarkable sunsets.

Story

Putting Together a Giant Puzzle: The project team was challenged with assembling and suspending an immense weight of specialized beef processing equipment. West Michigan Beef imported a piece of one-of-a-kind beef equipment from the Netherlands. Borrowing the concept they implemented for another local food producer, the team custom-built the equipment support system from secondary steel.

Story

This project consisted of five buildings, totaling 170,000 SF. Each building had its own schedule with overlap. Most of the eight-inch floors sloped to drains and were placed on insulation for in-floor heat. Building flatwork, foundations and excavations of footings was the entire scope.

Story

The New Holland Brewing Battle Creek location includes an inviting outdoor beer garden that seamlessly integrates with the existing brick structure of the main building. Situated in the heart of Battle Creek, coordinating deliveries and staging materials posed logistical challenges due to the limited space. The team had to use an off-site laydown area as they couldn’t stage much within the building footprint. The building itself showcases beautiful architectural finishes, including a standing seam roof and a ceiling liner panel.

Story

Ada Village – A3 Building was the first contract in a large section of buildings and this building became a restaurant. The work on this project included an elevator shaft, firewall, stairwell, and brick veneer. The team used EZ Scaffold to help complete this project. This project had its challenges with tight working spaces due to the location, number of different mortar and brick colors and arches.
